A holistic view of environmental toxins – what they do to our bodies and how we can counteract them

28. July 2025

In our modern world, we are exposed to a variety of environmental toxins every day – often without realizing it. Whether through exhaust fumes, pesticides in food, heavy metals in drinking water or plasticizers in packaging: These substances enter our bodies in a wide variety of ways. But what exactly happens then – and how can we support our body?

Environmental toxins – more than just pollutants

Environmental toxins are chemical substances that can upset our body’s natural metabolism. Some of them are stored in fatty tissue, others put a strain on the liver, kidneys or nervous system. Particularly problematic are so-called “persistent pollutants” – i.e. those that only break down very slowly.

The effects can be manifold: from tiredness, concentration problems or skin irritations to chronic complaints that cannot always be clearly assigned. It is important to note that everyone reacts differently, depending on genetic factors, their own lifestyle and individual detoxification capacity.

The holistic view – more than just detoxification

A holistic view of environmental toxins means looking not only at the pollutants themselves, but also at the person as a whole – including their lifestyle, diet, stress levels and personal history. It is about understanding the body and the environment as interconnected systems.

In addition to traditional measures such as a balanced diet, exercise in the fresh air and sufficient fluid intake, modern medical procedures also play a role – for example, if the stress level is particularly high or the body needs support in eliminating toxins.

Toxopheresis – a modern approach to relief

One method in the field of holistic medicine is toxopheresis. This is a blood purification procedure that aims to specifically remove certain harmful substances from the blood plasma.

In contrast to classic dialysis or chelation therapy, toxopheresis can be individually adapted and enables direct relief of the organism. It is used, for example, when a high level of harmful substances has already been detected in the body.
Toxopheresis can be a helpful component in a holistic concept to bring the body back into balance.

Conclusion: Responsibility for body and environment

Dealing with environmental toxins starts with your own mindfulness. If you consume consciously, prefer regional products, avoid plastic and exercise regularly in the fresh air, you can already do a lot. However, it is just as important to listen to your own body and get competent support if necessary – preferably from experts who see people as a whole.

After all, health is not a state, but a dynamic process – in constant interaction with our environment.
